The U. S. Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday approved the first prescription drug that can treat erectile dysfunction.
The drug, Viagra, was approved by the FDA as a generic drug and will be available in the U. through September 30.
Sildenafil citrate (the generic name is sildenafil citrate) is the active ingredient in the drug Viagra.
However, it's not the only erectile dysfunction drug approved by the agency. A spokesman for the FDA said the agency is reviewing the product and evaluating the safety and efficacy.
Viagra, which was launched in Europe in 2013, is the first generic drug to treat erectile dysfunction. It has been available in the U. since 1998.
The FDA said it was concerned that the drug may cause erectile dysfunction by interfering with blood flow to the penis.
It is the first drug approved to treat erectile dysfunction and it is the only one in the U. to treat it.
Dr. Mark Loeffler, a professor of urology at the University of Southern California, told the Associated Press the drug is an option for men with erectile dysfunction.
"If you have a penis that's hard enough for sex, you can go to bed and have intercourse. If you're not sexually aroused and you don't have erectile dysfunction, the medication may not work for you. It can also be dangerous," Loeffler said.
However, the FDA said that it was not making any recommendations on what to do about Viagra or how to use it.
Michael M. Leavitt, director of the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, told the Associated Press that he is not involved in the study.
"I have no idea what it is, but I don't know what it is safe for people to take," Leavitt said.
The FDA said it would take the drug's maker, Pfizer, at least a year to approve a generic version of Viagra, because generic versions are often less expensive.
